TURFACE

Turface - Looks a lot like Akadama, but is not. Essentially it is clay that has been heated in a fire until it becomes hard and will not decompose (turn into mud) with prolonged exposure to water. Incorporate into your Bonsai soil mix just before planting. Essentially used for reducing compaction, for nutrient and moisture retention. Each particle is full of tiny holes which absorb water and release it back to the plant slowly and its pH is relatively neutral.
